![]() You don't interact with initiative though. Since Firebrand and Renegade replaced Chronomancer and Druid halfway into PoF era, healing and boon support have become more and more uninvolved. You're not alone to dislike this aspect of support in this game. Thus, a certain amount of homogenization is more or less necessary.Įven "healers" just kind of passively spit out boons / healing while doing DPS And that is frustrating for players who don't want to level and gear an alt just for specific content, but participate on their favorite character. It was basically a detriment to bring a Ranger or Necro into your dungeon group. Early Guild Wars 2 had optimized comps consist of 1 Mesmer and 4 Warriors. You have to understand that, unlike single player RPGs, a game with group content will always have a meta in which classes compete for the same slots, be it tank, healer and DPS or any other combination. Not saying that gives them more depth, but it definitely changes your play patterns compared to the other classes you mentioned.įeels like different flavors of the same thing Which is exactly "a kind of unique resource to build / spend" and thus they are the one class that actually does operate on a resource instead of cooldowns. You deliberately ignore the most important mechanic of Thieves: Initiative. In GW2, everything a Thief does, an Engineer also does, and a Guardian also does, and a Necro also does and a Ranger also does. I haven't tried CMs as I'm too lazy to put a group together for them, but I'll have to give them a shot before fully giving up on the game. Even "healers" just kind of passively spit out boons / healing while doing DPS. In other MMOs, I'd have some kind of unique resource to build / spend, or some core mechanic that's pervasive throughout my class, or a certain role to fill, but everything in GW2 just feels like different flavors of the same thing. The only thing making me unique is the Steal mechanic, and it's kind of a one off that doesn't really interact with much of anything (though sometimes there's minor interactions like fields). Yes, you can avoid a majority of the agony in fractals, but a good number of them have agony that you can't avoid without significantly slowing down your group - in something like Nightmare, you can't do the orbs at all, so you force your team to, making the run slower and being a detriment to your group.Īs far as class similarity, I come from RPGs and older MMOs, so if I'm playing like a Rogue, for example, I'm going to do more damage from behind and/or from stealth, have more emphasis on control and DoT damage, but be squishy, with movement to make up for it. What's the trick to finding depth in the gameplay? I don't really have options for MMOs anymore. whatever it is, the combat in this game makes my brain actually start hurting. ![]() Maybe it's the content, since there really isn't much to do in the way of challenging, as the raids in GW2 are easier than FFXIV, and FOTM is just a gear check (AR) more than anything. Maybe it's the "limited action set" that a lot of newer games are obsessed with, and since your build is 100% customizable, you can't really have depth. Maybe it's the lack of a resource to manage, so every class just rotates CDs on the most efficient loop, meaning every class feels the same. and this game really just falls flat as far as combat goes, and with FFXIV and WoW being as mind numbingly simple as they are, it makes me sad, since this is the only other "big" MMO out there that isn't some shitty KMMO. I've tried pretty much every class and specialization, with a few missing that I don't have much interest in.
